Learning German

If you want to study in Germany it's absolutely necessary to have at least a small level of german. Most of german people speak english but they usually prefer not to. And they respect you a lot if you at least try to express yourself in german. In the university everything is in german. But if the class is small and there are more Erasmus and/or exchange students, teachers could decide to make the class in english. The universities have language schools (Sprachzentrum). For erasmus students they usually have free intensive courses. And if you want to continue with the course you pay a small amount of 30 euros per semester. There are also a lot of people that find a german Tandem to make a language exchange. German people are very interested in languages like spanish or italian. It's a very interesting way of learning the language. With my Tandem we usually do one day german and then the next day we only talk in spanish, this way we don't mix languages and we force ourselves to speak in the language we want to learn.

You can also try to improve your level online. I can suggest you some interesting links: http://www.deutsch-lernen.com/ - here you have Grammar and exercises; http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/german/ - here you can make a test level, grammar exercises and you also have other interesting information about life in Germany, http://www.goethe.de/lrn/duw/enindex.htm - grammar and exercises, communication with other learners, very important when you want to prepare for exams. I hope it's quite usefull.

It really is helpful at least for me, I did my erasmus in Germany, and thinking about going back, so I'll need to start practicing again, I think that I have forgotten almost everything I learnt.. such a pity...

Hey Rosa! I'm glad it's helpful for you. German is quite a difficult language. I realised that if I don't practise it it's quite easy to loose it. But if you have a level you can regain it by making exercises online or talking. There is one course that is quite good. http://www.deutsch-uni.com/gast/duo/info/index.do?do=index. I did it before going to Germany. It usually costs some 90 euros but every year DAAD gives erasmus students the opportunity to do it for free. You should ask your university. It is really good. You do the test level and then you start the programme with a tutor. You do exercises, talk in the forum with others over a theme that the teachers says. You also have a weekly chat with others and the teacher also make a skype conversation when you ask. This one here is free and quite good as well and for free http://www.deutschakademie.de/online-deutschkurs/english/. Good luck!

By the way there is a problem with the links 'cause I put the fullstops at the end. Try them without fullstops or you have them here one more time.
