Yeah that's usually what happens with Spanish people, they (we) tend to form ghettos because we don't have a very good level of English (I think that in fact that's not the problem, the real problem is that we are very ashamed of talking in English because of our accent and stuff). A friend of mine was in Cork this year and she told me she was very ashamed of Spanish people in general because they talked in Spanish (or even Catalan or Galician) even when there was another German/French/etc student with them :s that's very rude.

Education in Spain, respect to English are very very bad... People study English fifteen years (from 3 years to 18 years old) and they can't speak a five minutes conversation... Thanks to God my mom speaks English and she taught me... Hehehe!

3 years old? I think it depends on the autonomous community you live in. Did you begin to learn english at the age of 3 in the Canary Islands then? I began when I was 7, other schools near the one I attented to begin to teach English at the age of 5, so I guess it's pretty random then...
Plus I'm not sure if this happens everywhere in Spain, but in my primary and secondary school people laughed at you in class if you had a nice pronunciation of English...

I began at 8... But with the new law ("new" maybe starts ten years ago) children begin to stuy English at 3 years old... In my school, people didn't laugh of you... In fact, I think the majority of Spaniardas haven't a good pronunciation... In other countries, children only study English a couple of years and speak English fluency... Something goes wrong in Spain... Anyway, a Erasmus grant is the best opportunity to improve other languages... I can't wait hahaha... 31 days!

greeks also suck at the pronunciation and accent of the english language...
making them to be afraid of speaking in english....
but wait a minute? all the spanish people here know the language very well...
i think the problem for all of us is how to think and SPEAK the language...
it's a matter of experience...
and Hanne you must have a strict university if they are complaining for these things...
give Spanish people a chance !!!

I started to study english at 14! that's because in italy english began mandatory in primary school not many years ago... so I studied french at junior high...and I studied it with bad teacher too...so my french a little sucks XD

I learned most of my english from tv and music (like most of the belgian youngsters),
that's why I speak rather good, but the wrighting is a problem :p
Panos it's not for fun they're buidling a new accomodation to put the erasmus students in, it's just a real problem over here :) (although they are a little strict to)
Hi Irene! If you find a flat for a year-time, maybe I could take over at summersemester (I guess that will be easier to find)?

I'm one of this Spanish that doesn't know how to talk and write in English....so that's the reason to go to Praha! I want to live in an international flat, to speak in English all day! Moreover, when I'll drunk i improve my English....if not I can speak French! Maybe i can do better....
On the other hand, we should forget stereotypes! we will see by ourselves! :D

@Anais: i'm very suprised how well you know slovenia :) most of the people just thinks this is slovakia :))) well if you want, we can visit lake bled together during our stay in prague. i'm planning to do a lot of travelling during my erasmus time ;))
Hey guys! those that still don't know where to stay in Prague, what do you think about the idea of staying at hostivar hostel first (at the end of september)? that way we can all meet there, party with those in hostivar dorm and meenwhile look for an apartment together?

So guys if you don't know where to stay while you look for a flat as Nina said Hostivar is a good option! You will be invited to our parties! :D
By the way, I received the acceptance letter and I'm very happy right now, Prague is coming!!
