Do all Erasmus students stay in the same dormitory?
Most of the foreign and erasmus students are usually accommodated together in a student hostel
SD3. The address is Tajovskeho 51, 974 01 Banska Bystrica.
When can we check-in?
Checking-in starts on 2nd September 2011. Do not forget to tell your buddy about the date and time
of your arrival when you decide about it.
When does the school start and finish?
School starts on Monday 20th September 2010. It will end in Janury with examination period.
Sometimes it is possible (mainly for erasmus students) to finish all exams before Christmas.
What types of rooms are available and how much they cost?
There are either single rooms, which cost around 57 euros / month and 3-beds rooms which cost
around 50 euros / month. One single room and one 3-beds room share a bathroom and toillet.
Shall we pay for accommodation in advance?
No, you will pay by cash when you check-in by dormitory supervisor. You will pay for first 4
months at once. For a single room it will be 244 euros/4 months and for 3-beds rooms it will be 216
euros/ 4 months.
Are there any additional fees?
During semester you will be requested to pay for all eletric appliane you will bring with you, such
as laptop, kettle, fridge, etc ... For laptop you would pay around 1,5 euros per month. Usage of your
hairdryer, or your iron is free of charge.
What is the equipment of the rooms?
Each student has in the room a bed, a wardrobe, a shelf, a chair, a table. Everyone will get a pillow,
duvet and beddings as well. If you want, you can even get a reading-lamp. Each room has a balcony
as well. In the rooms there is internet connection available, but you need to bring your cabel. For all
electric appliance you will bring to your room, you will be requested to pay a fee.
What about bathrooms?
Four people share a bathroom and a toillet. Shampoos, shower gels, toilet paper etc. are NOT
provided. Cleaning ladies clean bathrooms once a week as well as your rooms.
Do we have in dormitory a kitchen? If yes, how is it equipped?
Yes, you do. Each floor (= 16 people) share the kitchen. In the kitchen you will find a fridge with
a little freezer, table, sink, chairs, cupboard and a cooker. There are no pots, plates, cups, cutlery,
etc. Some former erasmus students donated some of the kitchen stuff for the future Erasmus, but it
is still not enough for everybody...maybe in a few years... ;)
Can I wash my clothes anywhere?
In the dormitory there are 2 waschine machines which students can use. For usual wasching
programm you will pay 1,5 euros or 2 euros, but this price you have to pay in 50 cents coins! That’s
why 50 cents coins have a special value for our foreign students. ;) Instructions on the waschine
machines say that you don’t need to use your waschine powder as it will be added automatically.
Do we have internet in the rooms, or in dormitory? What about computers?
There is internet in your room, but you need a cable to get connected. There is wifi on the main
corridor of the dormitory and in all faculties.
You will find common computers for students in the corridors of faculties and your dormitory and
in the library which is situated in the dormitory as well.
Where can we eat? Do we have a canteen?
Yes, right in the bulding opposite to your dormitory there is a canteen, where you can get lunch or
dinner just for 1,52 euros! Welcome in cheap Slovakia! ;) If you want to use canteen, you need to
get a special card for it, or SLOVAK ISIC and charge it up.
Is ISIC (International Student Identification Card) I got from my homecountry valid in
Slovakia?
No, or rather not really. It does not have a chip, so it is not possible to use it for buses and trains, but
you can still get some discounts at shops or ski resorts etc..But we STRONGLY recommend you
to get a SLOVAK ISIC, because it will make your life easier and you will have all advantages like
Slovak students. You will get 50 % discounts while travelling, you can use it as a bus card in the
city, as a canteen card in our canteen, as a library card, etc... ;)
How much will I pay for Slovak ISIC with a chip?
It costs around 20 euros.
Will I get a buddy?
Of course, everybody will get a buddy. Buddy is a Slovak student, who will help you with anything
you will need before, during and after your mobility.
Is there a cheap taxi in Banska Bystrica?
Yes, we have some cheap taxi service in Banska Bystrica. You can call expres taxi dailing number
18111 and you will pay 2,80 euros within the whole city. You can also call „one taxi“ with number
0911 445 244 and you will pay just up to 3 euros.
