anyone knows if is usually more expensive renting rooms outside or inside a campus?
Javier Peña Napisano 13 lat temu
I suppose it is more expensive outside a campus, as in campuses, prices are arranged specially for students!

Javier is right. HOAS is the cheapest option and from all points of view the better one. I've been told by a friend of mine studying there now that is frequent to get "offered" houses in really bad shape, with little furnishure, and it's easy to get fooled. So the best option is HOAS, but apply now, 'cause there are residences in very limited numbers

there's one thing left I don't get: is HOAS someway a campus? Because clicking on "Housing" on the UH website they only suggest websites (first of all HOAS, then Lyyra etc) but never mention an actual UH campus.
I am going to apply as soon as possible anyway:) do I have to pay like a deposit charge?
THANKS:) (you're all helping me more than my home university ahah)

HOAS is a company which owns multiple appartments all over the city. When you apply to HOAS, you get one of these appartments regarding where you are going to study (you will get one appartment or another in terms of how close your appartment is to your university, and of course, in terms of availability - remember only 60% of exchange students in Helsinki use HOAS, the other 40% use alternative ways).
There is no UH campus (at least in the city centre). I believe other universities such as the Metropolia do have campuses with housing availability, but I don't know for sure about UH in other campuses.
You will have to pay a deposit charge for your housing in HOAS, though I believe it's not such a high amount, I believe around 500!

Thank you so much:)

One more thing. I heard that you have to choose among 3 options for your stay:
first term (4 months, Sept-Dec)
second term (5 months, Jan-May)
academic year (9 months, Sept-May)
it obviously depends on your scholarship too.
I wanted to stay 6 months but they told me that because of the Housing contract i can only choose among those options.
Maybe finding a house on my own would make it easier but more expensive for sure.

But after staying 5 mounths in Helsinki, you will have many friends and know about prices, how to rent a home this kind of stuffs.I mean finding place for accomodation will be easyier than now for you. I think you should make you reservation for 5 mounth and consider other 1 mounth after.. Anyway Javier was right, you have to pay 500euro for deposit in july. There 're 3 options for house type as i write below;
Studio Apartment= 2 people in one studio home= 250euro per each person
Studio Apartment= 1 person= 500euro
Shared Aparment= 4-6 people in a shared home- each peson has their own room and have to pay around 350euro
