The School of Education at AUD offers a Master of Education (M. Ed. ) degree focused on the essential work of teacher education for practicing and prospective teachers who love children and aspire to excellence.
Real-world, interactive learning takes place in a dynamic classroom setting. Students engage in case study analyses, personalized research projects and presentations, visual thinking routines, supervised fieldwork, and benefit from individualized mentoring by a faculty advisor.
The graduate degree program is designed with a number of target audiences in mind:
- Practicing elementary and secondary school teachers or teaching assistants who may or may not have an undergraduate degree in Education
- Career changers who are passionate about making a difference in children’s lives
- University graduates who have no prior teaching experience and wish to pursue a graduate degree in education with the intention of working in fields related to education
The M. Ed. is a research-based 36-credit hour professionally oriented program. Aligned with commonly recognized international standards, the program aims to provide the region with educators who are not only credentialed but highly qualified. Faculty and students work together to develop and deepen pride in the profession, cultural competence and a shared commitment to ethical practice.
Upon completion of the Master of Education (M. Ed. ) program, students will:
- Be an effective part of an educational team within a creative learning environment
- Be able to understand the political, social and cultural contexts of education
- Be able to differentiate instruction to meet students’ unique learning needs and create environments that are conducive to student learning and development
- Be able to meet the challenges of teaching by designing and implementing an effective classroom management plan
- Be able to use assessment data to improve instruction, advance student learning, and better design content-specific instruction
- Be able to identify, locate, evaluate, design, prepare, and use technology as an instructional resource
- Be able to conduct research and utilize important findings to inform current practices and make new contributions to the field of education
Program details
The Master of Education program can be completed within two years. On average, students enroll in two courses each semester. The program, made up solely of evening classes, combines six core courses with five further specialized courses in elementary or secondary education. It also includes a 15-week (one semester) supervised Practicum experience and a Capstone research project. Offering a culturally diverse graduate program, the Master of Education is open to U. A. E. national and expatriates, native and non-native English speakers. Non-native English speakers must achieve a TOEFL score of 550 or the equivalent to be eligible. Admissions entry
All applying students must have:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited national or regional institutional body, achieving a 3.00 GPA or better in undergraduate study.
- International TOEFL®or Academic IELTSTM or the equivalent score on another internationally-recognized English exam. PBT is accepted from specific centers in the UAE.
