Descripción del programa
The MA in Product Design is for students who wish to build their expertise, specialist knowledge and employability for real world product design challenges. Students will develop an advanced understanding of design practice, learn research methodologies, explore new product opportunities and emerging technologies to enhance their work and stimulate personal design identity and ambition.
Our course program responds to current professional design practices, a pluralistic approach combining academic activities with partners in business and industry, to reinforce research, new design applications and emerging technologies. This transcends from organised curricular activities to creating opportunities for students engaging in our integrated internship program and other career opportunities: Amorim Top Series, CEIIA – Centre de Engenharia e Desenvolvimento de Produto, CITEVE, Induflex, Kinder Surprise/Ferrero, Sonae Indústria/Surforma, Guimarães e Rosa, Simoldes Plastics Division, Mesa Cerâmica, Limalha, Hamilton Conte, Pixartidea, TMG Group, Fenabel, Boa Safra, OpoLab, Precious Plastic Portugal.
Our tutors are all specialists in their design fields and offer a holistic academic platform to build teaching and learning experiences. They are also researchers and professionals actively working on private and government-funded projects, therefore ensuring the teaching quality you will receive.
Teaching and learning is in a studio environment to encourage independent and collaborative activities, creating a sense of belonging and personal responsibility to the work and environment. In addition, you will have access to a suite of online tools which support teaching material, promotes interaction within a virtual classroom, and organises your assignments and submissions for feedback. Throughout the academic year, we invite guest speakers and designers to do workshops, conferences and interact with your curricular activities.
The technical facility within ESAD to support your work and teaching activities is excellent, and our workshops, labs and studios are free to use during opening hours or by appointment. Tutors and technicians will help you using wood and metal workshops, 3D printing, CNC machines, hand tools and soft materials, CAD laboratories, photographic and sound studios.
Visiting industry, companies and cultural centres, supports various curricular subject to contextualise products, systems and themes within their host environments. These in-the-field experiences are crucial to the students learning experience, witnessing different stages of the product creation process or stimulating inspiration for future design integration.
