Hi everybody!
I'm Valerio, an italian student from Perugia (Italy).. I'll study in Jyväskylä from the next september for 5 months. I'm very excited about this amazing experience and I can't wait for 19August to go. I would like to ask you guys if you can give me some advise about where it's better to look for a shared apartment. I actually don't know anything about the better zones of the city where to live.. considering that I'd prefer to live near the center. So I won't have problems to go out during my erasmus nightlife :p I also would ask you some opinions about the city, the transportation and the university.. anyway guys.. I'll wait for your response and I wish everybody an amazing experience in Jyväskylä!! see you soon! ;-)

Hello Valerio!
I suppose your studies have already started, however I'll post some information for the future students in Jyvaskyla.
So, when it comes to accomodation, I'd suggest you apply in KOAS and Kortepohja through their websites (be careful, if you are a JAMK student you can only apply to KOAS). You can also choose whether you like a studio apartment (no roomate) or a double or triple apartment (with 2 or 3 roomates) I recommend that you choose to have roomates because 1. it's easier to find a shared apartment, 2. the experience is better, when you have awesome roomates! In their websites there are also maps to see where are the houses located so you can see what neighboorhood is closer to your campus and indicate that in you application, however, there's a chance that there's nothing available where you are looking for an apartment. You can also indicate the price of the rent that you'd like to pay per month; most of the times, bills are included in the rent price. If you are starting your studies during the winter semester, house companies are very busy and there's a small chance they find nothing for you. So, choosing the place you want to stay (especially near the city center) is not an option.
When it come to transportation, most students, Finnish or foreigners move by bike, because it's easy to move in the city by bike. However, if you don't want to ride a bike through the winter, you can use the public transportation (buses) or even walk, in case your campus is in walking distance from your home. Buse tickets are expensive though, almost 4 euros, and the monthly bus card costs around 62-65 euros! So I'd suggest you walk or use a bike! Be carefull for the thieves; one thing that is getting stolen in Finland is bikes! You may find your wallet intact in a public place, but always lock your bike!
Hope you have a great time in Jyvaskyla!
Enjoy :)
