My name is Pamela Panza. I am a Canadian who speaks English, French, Spanish, and Italian. I was born in Winnipeg, Canada to a Salvadoran mother and an Italian father. Since I come from a multicultural family, I quickly developed a passion for learning foreign languages, traveling abroad, and learning about different cultures.
I am a certified TEFL ESL teacher with 120+ hours in training to teach English as a foreign language. I also have obtained a Bachelor's degree in French and Spanish from the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus. Currently, I am completing a Bachelor's degree in Education specializing in teaching French Immersion to adolescents from the Okanagan School of Education.
I have taught general English courses and business English courses since 2015 in Canada and in France in a one-to-one setting, group setting, delivering online lessons with a distance learning company, and in a classroom setting. My learners have ranged from children, adolescents, college and university students, and corporate learners. Not only do I have experience teaching English as a foreign language, but I also have experience teaching French and Spanish to university students, high school students, and middle school students.
I truly value in building strong, personal teacher-student relationships because it creates a positive learning environment. My ESL teaching approach and methodology is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning through human interactions. This means that I teach English by setting up a situation that students are likely to encounter in real life and where they need to communicate in English.
My teaching style does also focus on exposure to the English language to be able to naturally absorb it like a native speaker. I focus a lot on grammar and verb conjugations, but I know from experience that these things alone, while important, are not enough to reach a true level of fluency. I also find it vitally important to incorporate all the components in learning, that is, reading, writing, and most importantly, listening and speaking. When I teach English, I build the learning content based on my students' interests, passions, and needs.
I like teaching English as a second language because I truly enjoy teaching languages and learning them too. Since I have learned many foreign languages throughout my life, I would love to mentor and guide other learners as they embark on their journey of language learning. I also enjoy establishing strong, personal relationships with my learners as I learn about who they are and their cultural background. It's a pleasure to watch my learners learn and grow as they make progress learning English.
