I planned to take studies in Turkey (developing countries etc), so I combined my summer holiday in Antalya with visiting some universities. Travelling by bus to Eskisehir (there is no flight!) I arrived in an ordinary but clean city. My first thoughts were: "OK, this is a place where I can stay for one semester".
But suddenly I saw the Campus in front of me....No sorry, the first thing I saw was a kind of paramilitary corps which is thought to be the Campus Security. OK, perhaps the turks need security services at universities, but this was no security service..Though the "officers" :) were at least 20 cm smaller than me, they felt and behaved like US marines...On their uniforms they had handcuffs and a kind of riot stick!!
After the first shock I went to one of them (they control every ID Card) and told him, that I`m a german student and that I just want to see the campus but he was not able to understand me (of course they can`t speak english...). Suddenly two more "soldiers" came and talked something wired in turkish while they pointed at me and started laughing..That was the point when I turned and went away....I just wanted to see the campus but I saw a kind of Guantanamo...Perhaps they don`t need my study fees...
Later that day (my bus left at midnight, so I walked around in the city) I passed the sidewalk next to the campus entry an I saw these Robocops shouting at a girl. She was crying but they still shouted at her while one of them was nearly attacking her physically...
Back at my hotel in Antalya I checked youtube and saw some videos, on which the security ist beating student with riot sticks!!!
This is not the place where I want to take my courses so be aware of this university! If you don't want to be hurt, choose another place for your Erasmus...I hope that the other univerisites in Turkey don`t have such a paramilitarical security...

As far as the translator works, theses students tried to protest peacefully against the miserable food quality...Look what happens then:

Hey Swanny,
I'm sorry about Thomas's feelings, but i want to share my opinion without looking emotional, i'm joining Thomas about security existing, no one can enter Campus area that is not student, assistant, lecturer or other related person. So these security controls id cards but at the other side shouting, attacking or any kind of physical intervention is absolutely not acceptable. Actually i'm thinking generally people is polite but this depends to situation. I think it would be interesting to recognize a different culture...
Take Care...
;)
