Hi,
You have more luck than I have, because I did not receive any accomadation from HOAS. On the website of the Aalto university they give some advice on where to rent an accomodation on the private market. However most of them are way to expensive and are not furnished. Because I am only staying approx. 4 months I don't want to buy all furniture...
When I received email offers for rooms it was clear they were fake. The list of all the things available in the appartment did not correspond with the pictures. I suggest you just mail with them and try to find out if it's fake or not, and maybe call them..
Anyway, if you find an affordable appartment close to the university I would be happy to share it. But I am only staying the first semester...
Greetings

Hello everybody.
I have some doubts with the residence too. I have done the applying at HOAS two months ago, and they have not answered me yet. I am quite worried because I am reading HOAS doesn't offer apartaments to every applies (maybe). Do someone know another housing enterprise?
By the way, I'm from Spain.
Bye!

...I try to search something on the private market. If I have to tell you the truth, it's not so easy and the offers are not so cheaper that the HOAS one, sometimes worst too. Moreover it's difficult understand how conclude a good and safety agreement only by e-mail or normal mail.
I think that tomorrow mornig I will do all the burocracy stuff for accept the HOAS place, morover I hope to find there other students like me. That's could be an extra point for HOAS accommodations, the first one is the absolutly security that you have (no fake). The only thing that I don't like is the condition that don't allow you to terminate the agreement....so once you sign the contract you have to stay there all the period...or pay anyway for that!
BTW If you don't know how start your research try to digit "How to find a flat in Helsinki metropolitan area" on Google! You will find an iteresting PDF that explein you different ways for find an accommodation....
Bye!

Hi!!
I am coming to Helsinki as well, from September to June in order to study Computer Science (Kumpula campus). I have applyied to HOAS and I am -still- waiting for the response. So I can be also interested in looking for a shared apartment with someone who will study at the faculty of science or at some nearby campus.
this site seems to be the lead one for the private market.

keep in touch!

Hi!
Cathrine, 26, from Norway coming to Helsiniki for the autumn semester to study industrial design at Aalto University, first semester of my master degree. I am looking for a room/shared apartment/someone to share with. HOAS has offered me a room but it is way out of town and my university so I am really keen on finding another place. It seems difficult though. Is there anyone in here that's had any luck finding a place outisde HOAS? Or is there anyone in here i the Harustie housings? That is where I've been given a room.

Welcome Victoria and Cahthrine!!!
For Victoria: in which HOAS' campus will you live?
For Cathrine: you can try:
on lyyra website (look for it on google)
facebook group:
apartments for students in helsinki metropolitan area
Cathrine Einarsson Scritto 12 anni fa
Hi Luca,
Thank you! I've followed lyyra for a while without success, but I will definately check out the facebook group, it sounds like a good way to look.
Luca Musso Scritto 12 anni fa
So good luck cathrine, i hope you can found the flat in that group!
Victoria, I will live a little bit far from Helsinki: I will be in Kirjanpitäjänkuja 4 in Espoo, i'm 20 minutes from you with train.. You are lucky, I know that your place is one of the best to live for an Erasmus period!!!! Lot of Erasmus people and lot of parties!!!! and what will you study and where?
Steven Tait Scritto 12 anni fa
Luca I heard that Espoo it's no bad also :) ..of course it smaller that Helsinki but still a small city for Finland! I got my accommodation also, in Kilonrinne (Kilo). I am far from anything :P 14 km from Helsinki Center (but 500 meters from the train station), 8 km from Aalto University....and 9 km from Espoo. I even didn't find anyone that goes there to live, either in the FB group....
Anyway if it's like in DK where I stayed, in a range of 10-15 km there are absolutly no problems by using public transport....
If I remember right you will study Computer Science like me at Aalto University...probably we will see on the U-train + bus for reach the Uni...

I have heard too that Espoo is a quite cool city !
I wiil study music at the Sibelius Academy !
See you (maybe) soon !!

Steven, yeah I have probably the same situation of you because i'm near to the train station, and I know that i'll be often in Helsinki to have parties or meet people... I have friends that lived in the same house of me in espoo and they are happy about that accomodation.. So will be great... And Victoria I'm sure that we will see in helsinki... Everybody of us!!!
See you!! (not maybe) =D

antonio escobar Scritto 12 anni fa
HOAS just offered me a room in Hietaniemenkatu, very close to the Helsinki city center, for 550€/month! I hope to find a better solution in the private market on lyyra.fi, also because the tenancy period is fixed and can't be changed/interrupted untile may '13. if someone know other rental channels in the helsinki metropolitan area please let us know too!
see you soon/there! bye
Steven Tait Scritto 12 anni fa
Luca, I will study Computer Science at Aalto University School of Science (Service Design Engineering)!
Anyway we will meet for sure over there :)
Antonio, I found expensive the tenancy agreement too. And the clausule about that "it's not possible terminate the agremment" it's really suchs! I try to ask them about that...they replay me that it's normal....so nothing to do...I confirmed my offer and fuck off.
I can only warning you, private market could be dangerous, two guys tryed to contact me and trick me with fake offer, so check well anything.
Good Luck! And of course see you soon!

Hi everybody.
I'm Giovanni from Italy. I'll study material engineering at Aalto university in the autumn term. I had the same trouble with HOAS agreement. They gave me the apartment untill 31 May '13. So I asked for changing dates.
Tey said that it was a mistake and they sent me a new agreement with dates corrected (December '12).
Good luck.
