Overview

An increasingly globalized world has led tourism to become the fastest growing industry in business today. Modern companies require academically qualified, visionary leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset to create new business models and understand changes in technology and consumer trends. Focusing on the development of executive skills and strategic aptitudes, this program explores the theories, practices and frameworks that make up the tourism and hospitality fields, while developing understanding of international and intercultural management needs.

Program Structure

The Master in Tourism & Hospitality Management (60 ECTS) is a one-year program, divided into three terms. Each term comprises four courses (4 ECTS each) and one seminar (2 ECTS). Throughout the year, students are also exposed to real-life case studies, games and business simulations. In order to graduate, participants must also complete a business plan (6 ECTS).

Learning Outcomes

In addition to industry-specific modules, this program focuses on development strategies and management styles geared towards creating leaders in the industry who can also apply the same skills to the wider commercial market. Students will:

  • Investigate the impact of tourism planning and development on economic, sociocultural and physical environments.
  • Have a systematic understanding of the hospitality and tourism service sector organizations, their external contexts and how they are managed.
  • Critically evaluate the core business disciplines and methods at work in hospitality and tourism service sectors, and be able to apply these in practical contexts.
  • Explore issues that concern host-visitor relationships.

Entertainment Manager

Entertainment managers, also known as event managers, are tasked with organizing large-scale events. They determine event objectives with clients and, through implementation, ensure that they are met.

Commercial Director of a Hotel

Commercial directors of hotels are in charge of ensuring that a hotel is booked throughout the year and of coordinating with other departments to assure that client needs are met and that the hotel has the required resources to satisfy them. They will define the hotel´s pricing strategy, taking into account seasonal fluctuations, negotiate with agents and define budgets.

Public Relations Manager

Public relations managers are tasked with building and maintaining a positive image for their clients or company. They work closely with the press and media to ensure an organization’s message reaches its target audience and will issue communication materials and organize press conferences and interviews, among others, to achieve the same.

Tour Manager

Tour managers coordinate trips for individuals and groups and provide support throughout the trip. They also organize accommodation, car hire, insurance, among other activities. Tour managers are highly organized with scheduling forming a key part of their job function.
