When I was Erasmus, I spent a big amount of money in my first month. One of the biggest reasons was my mobile phone. Later some friends told me that there were softwares to call for free.
Skype is one of them: we can call from PC (or Mac) to PC for free. I f you want to call to a mobile phone or house-phone, you must pay a bit of money.
But, I used to use the Software called VoipBuster. You can also call for free to house-phones. Just one problem: when you create an acoount and are speaking, for example, 15-minutes, the software ask for money. NO Problem! Create an another account and continue speaking for free :)

and when the program doesn't take a new account for you, then you can top up 10 Euros and you get 180 day to call for free to landlines.
It's the best program ever!
