Hi, I'm going to Edinburgh next september for 6 months. I'll attend Heriot Watt University, that I see it's quite far avay from the city center.
Can someone give me some advice about renting an house there (if cloeser to the university or the city center, price, how to find, ...) and living (transport, food, nightlife, ...).
thanks
Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo,
Heriot Watt is a great University, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
I would reccomend you to either stay in Halls of Residence (the Universities provided accommodation) or get a flat in the city centre.
As a student myself, I would say it'll be a lot easier for the first few months making friends and getting to 9am lectures on time if you're at halls of residence! As they are much closer to the University.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city and you should take advantage of going for lots of walks and exploring the old town where you can walk down George IV street and see many pubs, bars and nice restaurants.
Of course you will have to get accustomed to the british food!! It's not as nice as italian food :( but not to worry, you can still find many nice restaurants/cafe's!
Being the capital city, accommodation can be quite pricey. If you look on Heriot Watt's website, you'll find Halls of Residence where you can apply to stay there from September onwards. If you'd prefer to stay in the city, you can look on www.gumtree.co.uk for a flat (easiest option!).
All the best!
Enjoy Edinburgh!!
Joanna

Hi Joanna, thanks for your answer.
I totally agree with you, staying at halls of residence should be much more easy and funny. Unfortunately I'll stay there for only one semester and I didn't find any of them avaiable for shor term rent, except for elliot house but seems to be too far from HWU.
Now I have a look to flat rent, maybe I can find a solution.
if you have any advice about short term studios in halls of residence, plese tell me.
All the best!!! Lorenzo
