Hey there, I'm from Zagreb, Croatia, and I am coming to Porto in September ;)
There is an airport in Rijeka, however, I believe that it would be cheapest for you to come from Portugal to Zagreb and then hop on to a bus or a train (the prices range from 100 to 200 kunas, or 15 to 30 euros). It's a 3 hour bus or train ride.
Rijeka is a port city, but very beautiful and I believe that a part of the city has free Wifi (near the city centre). It is near Istria, and many cultural heritage monuments are located there.
Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, send me a PM.
