is possible to reach Coimbra without airplane?

Hello everybody, i'm going to erasmus this september and i want reach Coimbra only with bus or train.I have seen, there are some bus that leave from firenze to madrid, for a duration travel about 30 hours. At the end in Madrid must take a train called "lusitania" for lisbon.
is there anyone that have done this before?
