The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing just fine.

Today I want to tell you about Georgian Post and how they work and if you want to send a parcel or something, or get a parcel you go there and get it. It's been quite some time that I've been using their service and, well, they are not that bad, however, there's always many people there and there's a huge line, if you want to know the truth.

How it all started

So, I didn't know much about post and stuff like that, because people didn't really use it some time ago and it was like no one really needed it. So that I didn't think that I would need something in post, you know. Well, then I started buying things online and, at first, I didn't know anything about it, too, and it took me quite some time to get everything and understand everything, because, you know, many people said, that it was a bad idea to buy things online and there were all these doubts and stuff about that and, of course, they were kind of right, because one can't really depend on something virtual, I guess.

Well, some time later I wondered how it would be to order some things online and get them in the post. So, I ordered some things and instead of giving them an address in USA as I used to do, I wrote my address in Tbilisi and waited for my order to arrive. You know, there’s this Georgian company called USA2GEORGIA and if you register there, you get this address and room and room number for your address and you can write that address on online order web sites and then you can order anything there and it will be brought there and then they will bring those things to Georgia in a week or so and then you get this text message about that and you will go to their office and take your things. However, they charge you for shipment and it’s like 8 USD per 1 kilo, I guess. So, I think, it was a bad idea to pay something for shipment and wait for it to be in Georgia, when you could just write your Georgian address and get that thing in post and that would be it, you know. so, I decided to try the post, besides, there’s no payment for that.

Where to find Georgian Post

Well, there are some buildings of Georgian post and it all depends on the area that you are living where your parcel will be delivered. You know, there is this service of delivering your order to your address, however, I can’t really understand how it works, because sometimes they get to you and sometimes they don’t and it’s like it’s better to get there and take your parcel yourself, than to wait for it to come to you by that service. Well, the service itself is free of charge, too, if you want to know the truth.

So, one of the buildings is on Pekini ave. it’s somewhere nearby the crossing of Pekini ave and Vazha-pshavela streets and maybe a little bit to Zhvania square. I haven’t been to that post office, if you want to know the truth. However, there’s another one on Vazha-pshavela avenue and I’ve been there and it’s a normal office, nothing fancy and there are two consultants there and there is this queue for parcels and letters and things like that, of course. The office is somewhere after the statue of Vazha-pshavela and the metro station and there’s a bus stop just in front of the post office.

There’s another post office nearby Kakheti highway. It’s in Samgori and since my address is nearby, I get my parcels there in that post office. It’s near Samgori metro station and it’s called Zeda Samgori and the office is not very easy to find, if you ask me, however, it’s not that impossible to find it. and there’s always many people there and you have to wait in line and everything, you know. the service is not that bad, however, they work pretty slowly, if you want to know the truth.

First time I was at the post was on Vazha-pshavela avenue and I was waiting for my order, which was a modifiable knife, which was like a credit card shaped and stuff like that, you know, so it was just a trial for it, because I wanted to see whether it would be delivered to me or not, so that I just bought something that was cheap online and would come fast and, well, it came pretty fast and I was messaged to go there and pick up my parcel, so that I went there. You know, there’s an easy way to go there on Vazha-pshavela avenue Georgian Post and its location is pretty good in terms of being just in front of bus stop. You can take either 150 or 21 number buses to get there. When I got there, at first, I didn’t really know where exactly it was and so that I got off the bus kind of early, I mean, I got off it one stop earlier and then, when I realized that it was just in front of the bus stop, I got kind of frustrated, however, it was not that bad, of course. When I got in, there were many people inside and there was this line and there was this one guy who was in front of me and he was like “I will just go outside and remember, that I’m in front of you” and things like that and I was there waiting for my time to come to go to the assistant and get my parcel. I don’t like those kind of people, who just think, that they can go out or do whatever they want and then just come back and be all like, I was in front of you and now I came back, so that it’s my turn to get the service or something like that, you know. it’s just wrong and unfair to other people, who just stood there all that time and waited for their time. You will find these kind of people everywhere in Georgia and it’s pretty annoying, of course. You should know that and be prepared to meet that kind of people and you should decide, whether you will let them be like that or just defend your rights. It’s really necessary not to let that people get what they want, if you ask me, because they are just rude and don’t deserve anything. It’s really not that good to want to take something that’s not yours!

Anyways, I took my parcel and went out with a great satisfaction, because it was the first time of me receiving a parcel, you know, and it felt amazing somehow. Well, after that, I usually ordered things on my Georgian address and those things used to be delivered in Georgian post. Then I changed my address and the parcels were to be delivered in Georgian post in Samgori. And the first time something was delivered, I got this SMS and there was their address written, too, and I thought that it would be nearby our apartment, however, it was not. What’s more, it was kind of far away from there. And when I asked my father about it, he told me that he would take me there, so that we went to Samgori, I mean, it was somewhere nearby the Samgori metro station and, to be honest, it took us quite some time to finally find the building where this Georgian post was located.

To tell you the truth, when I first entered there it was kind of a shock, because the room was just white with all those walls and there was just one table on the left and three chairs or something like that and there were three tables in front of me and there were two people working there at the computers and that was it. I thought, that the office would be kind of fancy, but it was everything but fancy, if you want to know the truth. And there was this other room behind, where they had all those parcels. You know, their office on Vazha-pshavela ave was really better and fancier than this one, though this office is closer to our apartment, than the Vazha-pshavela one, of course, so that according to the address, our parcels are to be delivered there. Well, there is this thing about it, that it’s kind of nearby the metro station comparing to other offices of the Georgian post, which are not even close to any metro station and they are kind of in some wrong places, I mean, you have to change your transports and walk and everything to get to them and that’s why I don’t like going there. And, I guess, no one does, however, it’s an important service for people and they are kind of obliged to go there, you know. And then there’s always a huge line there, I mean, these people really don’t have anything else to do than just to go to the Georgian post and wait in line there to get their parcels or send some letters or send parcels or whatever.

There are some kind of troubles there, too, I mean, some people lose their parcels on the way or the assistants can’t find the right parcel in the storage, etc. for example, it was my sister, who got this SMS telling her to come and get her parcel and when she got there, there was this huge line, of course and she stood there and she waited and when, finally, it was her time to get the parcel, they told her that they couldn’t find it at once and to wait for two minutes or so and that then they would call her name and she would go to that desk again and get the parcel. Well, of course, she waited with high expectations and things like that, and it went half an hour, and then went the whole one hour and she was like “what is going on here?!” and, at last, she went to this assistant girl and asked what was going on and where her parcel was and it turned out that they hadn’t even started searching for it by then and she got kind of angry, you know, however, she didn’t say a word and smiled to that girl and asked to look for her parcel and they were like “please, wait for a little longer” and she waited for some time after that, too. She can be very patient when it comes to waiting, I guess, because in her case, if it was someone other than her, they would get all angry and stuff and they would start screaming and yelling to those staff members and, you know how it happens, especially if it is an old woman, they can be pretty annoying at that time and they would be right, too, because you shouldn’t keep someone waiting for so long, when you haven’t even started looking for the item, that they have been waiting for. Anyways, some time later this girl came out and told her to go to that desk and get her parcel and she was all relieved and stuff, because after all this waiting she finally got her parcel, however, this was just a tiny parcel and, I guess, it was earrings in there or something like that and now imagine, she waited for that tiny parcel for almost 2 hours, I guess! Well, that’s our post!

New Year in Georgian Post

So, I guess, you all got the idea of how the Georgian post works in Tbilisi. It’s like, you won’t have any desire to go there and wait in line just to get a parcel or send a letter or whatever. And I don’t really get how their delivery service works, because sometimes they come to your apartment and get you the delivery and if you are not at home, they just leave this long note about how you should get to their office during the following 20 days or so and get your parcel or whatever. And sometimes they send you this SMS to go and get your parcel. Well, to be honest, the delivery service is pretty good, if you are at home, because it’s free and you don’t have to go anywhere to get your parcel, however, it’s stupid to wait for the courier to come to your apartment, besides, we’re almost never at home, when they start getting around the city and delivering those stuff. So, I usually have to go to that Samgori Georgian Post and get my parcels from there. You know, they have these great motorcycles and the couriers go around the city on them and their colour is blue and the couriers are wearing blue uniforms, too, and that colour is not that dark blue or light blue, it’s just something really nice, I mean, it’s not an annoying colour or whatever, it’s just perfect, I must say. And the motorcycles are pretty lovely and I kind of want to get on them and ride them sometimes. Though, I don’t really think, that they are comfortable most of the time. I mean, they can be great in summer, but all those other days, I don’t really think, that sitting on them and riding them somewhere is a real comfort. I think, I prefer driving a car instead, because there you can have the windows up and you won’t feel a cold breeze freezing your face and ears and hands and, well, freezing you to death! And if you want to feel the breeze, you can just turn those windows down and feel the fresh air on your face. That’s one of the perks of having a car with all those other reasons of why you should buy and own one in your life.

New Year and Christmas is always a busy season of the year and, well, Georgian post had lots of stuff to do then, of course. There was this Secret Santa game sponsored by the Bank of Georgia and that made them have even more things to do during that period, I mean, people played that game and they had to choose some gifts for other people and send them to them and they had to go to Georgian post and have them wrapped and stuff and then they would get those gifts to the recipients and there were so many people into this game that I was kind of shocked, if you want to know the truth. I didn’t think, that so many people would want to play that game, besides, some people could make some great presents for others and some may had not and that would be very disappointing for those, of course, if you ask me.

This one time, my sister was waiting for some parcels and she had this free time between 2 and 4 p. m. and she decided to go there and get her parcels, because she was really interested which ones she got delivered by then. So that she went there and there was a long line, however, not that long, if you want to know the truth, so that, she thought, that she would wait for a little, and then get the parcel and be happy and stuff. Besides, there were only 4 people in front of her waiting for their turn. You know, there are three desks there and there are three assistants working there, so that it shouldn’t be a big problem to work fast and care for the customers, however, some of them are very needy and some of them are those kind of people, that even if you talk to them very carefully and stuff like that, they are still unpleased and annoyed and they don’t get what you are telling them, etc. However, this was not the case, I mean, she stood there and waited for her turn and there were people coming in and going and leaving their presents and getting their parcels and stuff like that, and this girl at the desk worked so slowly, that there were only four people in front of my sister and they were not even moving, if you want to know the truth. However, she was still standing there, waiting. Those guys got their parcels and the other one had a gift to send somewhere and she was filling out the form and finally, it was my sister’s turn in line, though this guy finished his filling and my sister thought, that she would wait for him to get this form to that assistant girl and then she would take her parcels. However, after this guy this girl told her, that she had so many parcels to send away, that she wouldn’t get any customers and it was really annoying for her, because she was waiting for her for so long and now she suddenly decided, that she had all those work to have done! That was just unfair, and those things shouldn’t happen, you know.

So, if you have to go to the Georgian post and you have some business to do there, just remember, that you may have to wait in line for a long time and you may be annoyed by all that stuff that is going on here and you may even not get the service, that you have been waiting for to get, you know. This is just something stupid. However, there are some good people working there, too, and they are pretty competent in their work and everything. They just do their jobs well and I appreciate that, of course. There is also this guy in Samgori Georgian post office, and he is pretty enthusiastic and hardworking and he always gets many customers and he works very efficiently, if you want to know the truth, so that his line is always long, however, he manages to serve all those people faster than those other assistants working there. And I just realized pretty recently, that he resembles this actor, who acts in this famous Dorian Gray movie filmed in 2009. It’s Ben Barnes and he plays the role really well, if you ask me. So this guy pretty much resembles him, if you ask me and you would think that, too, if you saw him, I guess. And if you haven’t seen this film, I recommend watching it, because it’s really filmed well and the scenes are pretty amazing and, well, the story itself is just great, of course, if you have read the book, you would agree with me on that, I guess.

Anyways, I just want to tell you another thing about Georgian post and that would be it, I guess. Well, I started about this New Year and Christmas thing and then about the Secret Santa games and stuff like that and, well, Georgian post did a good job in that games, if you want to know the truth, because they collected all those gifts and delivered them to the recipients and made them happy and stuff, you know. People usually love this season of the year and they usually associate it with snow and everything white outside and them sitting in a room, drinking hot chocolate or something and watching people walking in the streets and falling snowflakes and everything, however, these things don’t happen here nowadays, I mean, it’s sunny outside and you don’t even feel the Christmas or New Year and many people don’t have this holiday spirit during those days anymore because of that. So, doing that Secret Santa was kind of making the holiday spirit and those people wanted to feel the New Year and Christmas somehow, I guess. I thought of getting into those games, too, however, then I decided not to, because I was kind of lazy for that, I guess, and my sister didn’t know about it until the very end or something like that. So, Georgian post really did make many people happy for the New Year. You know, in Georgia people celebrate New Year with gifts, while Christmas is another big event, however, it’s not the tradition to give presents on Christmas in Georgia as it is in other countries.

So, this time, on New Year and Christmas season, as all the other offices and buildings, Georgian post offices were decorated with Christmas lights and trees and stuff like that, too, of course. You should know, that the symbol colour of Georgian post is blue, while it is red in England and I don’t know, why I remembered England this time, perhaps because it was my first country that I visited some years ago and it was like my dream country to visit. So, as the main colour of this Georgian post is blue, their decorations were in blue colours, of course, and some whites, because they wouldn’t just have everything blue around, right?! And they had this large white Christmas tree in Samgori Georgian post office and there were blue and white balls hung onit and it was really lovely and since it was pretty large, it looked just amazing and the holiday spirit was on there! I really liked that tree and the decorations. And, I guess, you remember, how I described their office and how horrible it is, and despite all that, the New Year decorations really changed everything there and you would really like it and want to go in there and look at the Christmas tree and enjoy looking at it. Well, I hope, that they will do some renovations and make their office more comfortable and lovely as it was during the New Year and Christmas season, because the room is pretty large and it can be a great office and comfortable for working for everyone.
