Why did you choose to go to Cologne, Germany?

I wanted to choose a city different from the "popular ones" at least in my country. I wanted to experience living in a first world country, so I chose Germany. I was also interested in learning more about the history of Germany and the language.

Honestly, I didn't know that much about the city before going, I just read that it was a really good option for students.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cologne?

Full of students. One of the main things in this city is the University, so many students choose it for studying. Because of this, it is very well prepared with pubs, bars, entertainment for them. Impossible to forget the Carnaval (takes place in January and February), incredible event to be experienced.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Cologne to other students?

Yes. You have to know that it is a huge university and the organization for exchange students could be a little messy, but nothing so serious that could make you have a bad time.

It has many courses in English, for those who don't speak German.

What is the food like?

There are many countries with better food, but if you like sausages and beer it is the perfect place.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Cologne?

Yes, there are a lot of students and the offers end fastly. So start looking with time and don't be too exigent with it.

How much does it cost to live in Cologne?

If you go to a student's residence (Studentenwohnheim) that the University offers you could find for 120E per month. If not, I was in a shared flat (WG) in which I paid 250E per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Being native from a Latin language, German is not that easy, but not impossible. The University offers language courses before the semester and during it for free. Very good and useful courses.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Cologne from your city?

Tram, subway or bus. In the social fee for exchange students (Semesterticket) that we paid for the University it was included the free pass for the tram, subway and bus.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Cologne?

There are many pubs and clubs to go. There is one day of the week that different clubs (Roonburg and Flora) offer free entrance and drinks for students.
