Internet providers in Georgia

The introduction

Hello people, this is another article by me and I’m pretty happy about it, because I get a chance to share some things with you.

In this article I want to tell you about some internet services in Georgia and give you some information about them and how to use them and which one is the most popular one and so on and so forth.

First of all, you should know, that there are some internet providers in the whole Georgia and people use those ones, it all depends on the places where those people live and their decision, of which internet to choose.

Usually, there are phone cables here and, I mean, the land phones or whatever and most of the people use those land phones, though, they don’t really need them anymore, I guess, because there are mobile phones and everyone uses them and those providers offer some great tariffs for those mobile phone users and they may even cost less than the land phones, besides, those land phones are not that comfortable to use and they are not that efficient as the mobile phones, etc.

Anyways, these land phones’ lines are used to get the internet service, however, if they don’t have those land phone lines, the internet providers offer them those lines and cables and everything and, well, they just get you the internet you wish to use.
There are different internet service providers. There’s Caucasus Online, Delta, and some others, which offer good internet to people.

Caucasus Online

Well , to tell you the truth, our family uses Caucasus Online internet service. We’ve been using it for quite some time, now. It has some good services and offerings and now we use one of their services, which is Student Internet. So, it’s a great one, if you ask me, because you just pay 20 Laris a monthand its speed is 20 mb and it’s pretty fast and it’s all anyone would need, because it’s more than enough, I guess, and, besides, the price is pretty reasonable and everything, you know. it just needed a person, who was a student and lived there and, well, of course, the document proving that this person was a student and was studying at any university or college in Georgia. So, both my sister and brother are students and we have these two places and one of them activated this internet service in one place and the other one did that in the other place, so that we use that student internet and are pretty satisfied with that. It’s really important for everyone nowadays to have a good internet at home, because there’s no life imaginable without internet if you ask me. This is just something you can’t avoid. This is a time, when everyone needs internet, if they want to have jobs and contact with people and get the news and get information, etc. of course, one can live without any internet and be happy with their lives, however, it’s really hard to live in the 21-st century and achieve success without internet and global connection. That’s why even those get the internet service at their homes, who don’t really want to be depended on internet. However, even they realize, that it’s very bad for themselves to be without any internet connection.

“Tbilisi loves you” wi-fi

There’s this thing in Tbilisi _ internet and wi-fi covering every place in the city. I really like that idea, because people walk around the city and they need to have internet, so that they can move around and don’t get lost and stuff like that and they have these google maps on smartphones and iphones and stuff like that and they need to have internet there to see the maps and where they are and where they are going, etc. So, you should know, that you can get wi-fi free of charge in any metro station. That’s really amazing thing and I couldn’t believe that, until I personally saw it in the metro stations. When you get into metro station, you can turn your wi-fi on and it will say, that there are open wi-fi networks possible and then you will find this “Tbilisi loves you” wi-fi and you can connect to it. although, you will need to wait for it until it says “sign into wi-fi network” and then you can click on it and then there will be a pop-up about copying some url and then you copy it and place it in the address tab and then there will be this sign in green “connect” and you click on it and then you wait for 10 seconds until it says “connect” again and then it will tell you , that you are connected and after all these things you can access the wi-fi network and do whatever you want in internet. You may think, that it’s something difficult, but it’s not, however it takes some time, maybe a minute, I guess, and it’s really annoying. I mean, some time ago it was not like that, and it was better, if you ask me. If you had wi-fi turned on in your phone, then when you got into the metro station, it automatically connected to the wi-fi “Tbilisi loves you” and you didn’t have to do all those stuff and wait and wait until the connection is done. That way it was really easy to get connected and you didn’t waste any time on clicking and waiting and you could even have internet connection during the stops, which last for about a minute or something like that, I guess.

So, imagine that you are a tourist in Tbilisi and you don’t have that map on paper or something like that and you want to have an access to the internet, so that you can see where you are or where to go or whatever and you don’t know what to do. Now it’s the time to get to the metro station and have an access to the internet. But don’t get me wrong, I mean, this “Tbilisi loves you” is not just in metro stations, it can be accessed in the streets, too, however, there are certain areas, where you can have an access to the “Tbilisi loves you” wi-fi. For example, there’s Pekini ave and Rustaveli ave and Chavchavadze ave and Vazha-pshavela ave and Kazbegi ave, where you can get access to “Tbilisi loves you” wi-fi, and if you can’t find it, then you should move a little bit and you will see that sign somewhere nearby, I guess. It’s a good idea to get to the bus stations, because there usually is that internet access. You can get to Pekini ave and there’s an internet access almost on every bus station, if you want to know the truth.

Internet access throughout the city

Well, if you can’t get the “Tbilisi loves you” wi-fi access anywhere, then you can get to any famous fast food restaurant, I mean, there are McDonald’s and Wendy’s and Dunkin’ Donuts and KFC, where you can have a free internet access over wi-fi. There are many of them almost everywhere throughout the city and you can spot them pretty easily. You can find Dunkin’ Donuts in every place, I guess, because there are plenty of them and I didn’t really think, that there would be so many of them in the city in such a short time.

You know, there’s this huge Wendy’s at the end of Pekini ave, and it’s the largest Wendy’s in the world, as they say. It’s really a good one, if you want to know the truth, and the place is really great, too, I mean, it’s nearby a metro station and there’s a bus station in front of it, too, however, there’s no real parking space there and it’s kind of hard to get there by car because of that, and, well, I guess, the drivers don’t really like getting to that Wendy’s. I guess, they prefer going to Wendy’s on Rustaveli ave or Chavchavadze ave, because there’s a large parking zone there for everyone and you can park your car peacefully and get inside the restaurant without any worries or something like that. However, that’s because there’s this Smart Supermarket with the Wendy’s, too, there, and, I guess, the parking space is because of that. I think, it was on Rustaveli ave, where the first Wendy’s was opened and it’s a really beautiful one, if you want to know the truth and many people visit it. so, if you are on those streets, you can visit the Wendy’s, and, well, there’s usually Dunkin’ Donuts with it, too, and you can have access to a free wi-fi. And, of course, tourists mainly go to Rustaveli ave when they get to Tbilisi, so that, it’s pretty easy to find Wendy’s and McDonald’s on Rustaveli ave and get there and have an internet access and enjoy the meals or whatever.

Another great thing in this city about free wi-fi is the TBC bank. It has free wi-fi in its different branches around the city and if you go nearby, you will spot this wi-fi called “TBC guest”, which is totally free and you can access it and use it as much as you want. That’s just perfect. I didn’t know about that until recently and I was pretty happy about it, of course, because it gives you a feeling, that this bank really cares about its clients and stuff like that. I mean, if you go to Bank of Georgia, you won’t even see any wi-fi networks, I guess, and that’s pretty sad, because sometimes people need internet access when being in the bank and there should be something to get access to the internet there, if you ask me.

Another free wi-fi spots are in USA2GEORGIA buildings. That’s a company for getting parcels from the United States and there are four branches of it, if I remember correctly and it’s been just recently, that they have free wi-fi access in their buildings for the clients, however, you can get there nearby and have an access to the internet network if you need to.

Caucasus Online and Magti

So, I’ve told you about Caucasus Online internet already and some things about it, however I haven’t told you everything, I guess. I don’t want to get all detailed and stuff, because then everything will get messy or something like that. I just want to get the basic information to you, so that you can have some idea about the internet stuff in Georgia and how you can get an access to it without much effort.

Well, from this summer, Caucasus Online was bought by Magti, I guess, or something like that and it’s Magti now, whom we pay this internet fee, as I know. and Magti had this offer to its clients about calling to some phone numbers unlimited and free of charge and my sister got interested in that and googled it and got some information. It was a pretty good idea. I mean, you can choose 4 mobile phone numbers and those numbers will talk to each other free of charge. Well, one of them is your number, of course. You just have to add 1 Lari to each added mobile phone number to your monthly fee of internet access. That’s not a bad idea, if you ask me, if you talk to those numbers very often in any case. So, now she has chosen these numbers, which she talks to free of charge. Well, those numbers are my brother’s and father’s and mother’s if you want to know the truth.

So, the thing about this internet service is, that, you can pay daily or pay some of the whole fee and not the whole month’s fee at once and that’s pretty cool and, besides, you can get a credit of 9 or 10 days if you can not pay for your internet, or if you forget to pay for it. you can call them or log in to your account on Caucasus Online website and get a credit and you will have an access to the internet in 15 minutes or so and you can pay the whole monthly amount of the internet fee in the next 9 days. I really like that thing, because there are occasions, when you forget to pay for the internet and you need to have an access to it, of course, and you don’t have 20 Laris at that time and you are just in a bad situation. However, with the help of that service, you can no longer worry about that and get a credit and have an internet access without any worries. And in the meantime, you can earn that 20 laris in those 9 days and pay for your internet, otherwise, you will no longer have the access to the internet and you will have to pay those 20 Laris anyways, of course, at least some time later, and meanwhile, they charge you 50 Tetris for each day, if you want to know the truth. And another thing, they have your mobile phone number in their documents and they message you a day before and tell you, that you have to pay for your internet access and remind you of that, you know. however, reminding that you have to pay for your internet one day before is not a great idea, because sometimes people don’t have time for paying or there are things, that prevent you from paying for your internet and so that you get stuck like that, you know. or, maybe you see the message and then forget about it and then, when you remember about the message, it’s too late for that, I mean, for paying for your internet and that’s when you remember, that you can get an internet access by getting a credit and then you feel all relieved and stuff like that.

You know, you can call the Caucasus Online and have your internet stopped for some time. You can choose how many days or whatever you don’t want to have an internet access and they can do that free of charge and, well, that’s kind of limited and after that limitations, you can also get it stopped, however, they will charge you something in addition to that. So, if I remember it correctly, there’s this 3 weeks’ limit in a year of stopping the internet access free of charge and you can benefit from that service whenever you want, and you can have it for a day or for some days or for three weeks’ time, of course. I’ve used that service a couple of time and it’s pretty good for people, who are going to be out of town or whatever and don’t need an internet access at home at that time. And if you tell them, that, for example, you want that service for 5 days and they stop your internet access for those 5 days, and then if you change your mind and you will need to have an internet after 3 days or something like that, you can call them and they will get you the internet access right away. However, there’s this thing, that if you call them with other mobile phone number, they won’t do that, I mean, it should be the exact number, which is written in your application and contract to the Caucasus Online.

Delta

Well, my home town is Sagarejo in Kakheti, Georgia and we have a house there, so that we need an internet access there, too, of course. It’s been some years now, since the introduction of Delta internet there and we applied for it to get it to our house and now we have it there and the speed of it is very fast and that’s what everyone’s shocked about and it costs 30 Laris a month, however, the one thing that I don’t like about it is that you must pay the whole fee in the start of the month and if you don’t, then they cut it to you and then you have to pay a fine of 5 Laris in addition to the next month’s fee. Though, it’s good, that they don’t make you pay for the month, that you didn’t pay for, you know. for example, it was something like 3 months, that we weren’t at home and, hence, we hadn’t paid for our internet and then, after those three months, we needed to have internet access there, as we had returned home, so that when we paid a month’s fee, there was still not any internet there, so that we called the Delta and we found out, that since we didn’t have the three month’s fee, we would get fined and then we would get the internet after paying that fine. And we thought, that the fine would be us paying for those 3 months on not having the internet, too, however, we were relieved, when they told us, that we would only have to pay 5 Laris of each unpaid month, so that we paid that money and we got the internet access after that.

SilkTV

There’s also this SilkTV, which offers people internet access in addition to the TV and you can rewind the TV and watch whichever program or channel you want and it has many channels and programs, if you want to know the truth. However, I don’t really know much about that service, because we don’t use that in our family, however, people, who use that SilkTV are pretty satisfied and it’s really good, when you have this rewind function and everything, you know. it’s just a great way of watching TV, especially when there are some things, that you want to watch and you are not at home at that time and you can’t watch those things, however, with the help of this SilkTV you can set the time of that program and sit on the couch and watch whatever you wanted to watch peacefully, without even worrying that you missed some TV show or program or match or series or whatever. My grandmother always does that, because she is a teacher and she doesn’t really have much time to watch some programs, that she wants to watch, so that when she returns home and does all that stuff that she has to do and when she finishes everything, she then sits in her comfortable couch and rewinds the TV and watches the program, that she wants to watch. My cousin also likes that silkTV and he just uses it to watch different fun programs and there are plenty of them, I mean, there are this Comedy Show and Vano’s Show and Shua Kalakshi and Keris Ubani and others and he also likes to watch some movies and he usually rewinds the TV to his desired time and watches those things, that he wants to watch. There was this Comedy New Year’s Concert and he was attending one in the theatre and they were filming it and he was in several scenes and he would rewind this concert on those moments and watch himself again and again and he soon knew the whole concert by heart, I guess. He just knew every detail about the concert, if you want to know the truth. So that, this silkTV is a pretty good thing, too.

Internet in other places

Well, there are internet access in other places, too, and you need to know, where exactly to search for it, however, now I don’t really remember any other places, where you can get a free wi-fi connection somewhere else, however, there are places, where you can get inside and have a meal or lunch or whatever and they all have an internet access, of course, and you can ask them about the internet and the wi-fi password and they will tell you without any effort. And that’s a pretty good thing. However, there are some places like that, where there is no wi-fi for anyone and you can’t have the internet access, hence. I don’t really like those places, if you want to know the truth. Well, it all depends on the place, of course. There are some places, where there should not be any internet access, for example, those places, where groups of people go and have dinner or something like that. I mean, those people go there to be together and talk to each other and stuff like that, however, then they take all those mobile phones and stick into them and scroll the Facebook and upload some photos and make those check-ins and everything and that’s just really annoying, because they are at the dinner and at the same time, they are not. They should communicate with each other directly there and not via Facebook, if you ask me, and, I guess, everyone will agree with me on that. It’s just a terrible thing to do while being at the dinner table with some friends or collegues or whatever. Well, to tell you the truth, everyone does that nowadays and people can’t really do something else, I guess. They are just addicted to social network and can’t really be without it any day. There are people, who can’t even stand not going onto Facebook for an hour or so. And what they do there?! They just scroll the Facebook and see what others are posting and they Like some of those posts and some of them are so “lovely”, that they can’t really not comment on them and stuff like that , you know. of course, it’s a good thing if you have a Facebook, especially if you are in some kind of community, I mean, we have this group of our class and our training program and our summer school and things like that and we communicate there with each other, so that everyone in that group can see what we want to tell them or the news that we have for each other and so on and so forth, and it’s a pretty good thing for communicating with each other in that case. There’s this good thing, too, that you can have events on Facebook and people can see them and get the information about all those events nearby and the ones that they may be interested in and they can save them and stuff like that and be reminded of and if they are free at that time, they can go to those events and enjoy them, of course. That’s what I really like about them, if you want to know the truth. However, too much Facebook is not good for anyone and too much internet is not good for everyone, too, if you ask me.

Anyways, I think the article came out pretty large, and though I wanted to write some other things, I might write them in another articles or something like that. For now, I guess, I provided some useful information about internet access in Tbilisi and things like that. Although, it’s a kind of general information, if you ask me, however, I think many people will find it useful and that my writings won’t be in vain. I really want to help you guys about some things concerning Georgia and visiting this country and moving around it. there are many places to visit and see and it’s not really possible to describe and write about them all, however, I will still try to do my best to tell you more about everything.
