Do you have some time around Brisbane? Have you already taken a stroll down the Queen Street, did some shopping, visited the Gold Coast? You love animals? In that case, this is a perfect place for you to go to.
Only 40 minutes away by bus from Queen Street, head to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. My advice, go early in the morning so you don’t miss your Koala photo session, which truly is a unique experience that you will remember forever. In case you are an airline crew, like I was at the time, do remember to bring your ID and you will get a discounted price. I paid a lot of attention on how animals are treated there and was happy to see that the workers really take proper care of them. I was traumatized after certain things I have seen around India and Sri Lanka.
There were koalas, kangaroos, dingos, crocodiles, ostridges and number of other animals which I couldn’t even name. The koalas were my favorites. I still feel this cuteness overload in my heart. When I took it in my arms, it was under full supervision of Sanctuary workers as they get scared if you do a wrong movement.
Having finished with the koalas, I headed to the yard where you can interact with the kangaroos. I was a bit scared after I had heard all those rumors about kangaroos hitting people and being violent, but these ones were delighted to interact with humans. I couldn’t resist taking some selfies with them. And they were amazed as well upon seeing their own figure in my phone camera. The weather was rainy, so one of them even dared to steal my umbrella (laughing as I am typing this).
All in all, as I said, I really loved that place, not only because of the interaction with animals, but also for the care and effort of the workers invested into it.
