What is it like to live in Bolivar? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a nice small town in the midwest. The university is centrally located with housing and most businesses within walking distance. They are many friendly churches of all faiths to attend.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bolivar?

SBU is a Christian University so drinking and partying is not a main attraction. As a matter of fact its a Baptist school so drinking is against the rules. The students are really friendly and the professors take a strong interest in the students success.

How much does it cost to live in Bolivar?

The first 2 years you must live in the dorm and after that apartments can be rented for 500 - 700 a month plus utilities. This is usually shared with 1 or 2 roommates to lower expenses.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bolivar? Is there any advice you can give?

No, its easy to find a place. SBU has about 3,000 students and between dorms and apartments they are many choices.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

They have all the fast food restaurants plus some great asian places. I love fried rice from Changs. It's typical American small town restaurants.

What places would you recommend visiting in Bolivar?

The city park is beautiful. It has a big pond with ducks and lots of trails. Also, Pom De Terr lake is not far away and offers great fishing, camping and hiking. lake Stockton is also close and Branson is only 1 hour away.

Is it good to eat out in Bolivar? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There is not a lot of fine dining, which is expensive, but i like Changs. I also like NiftyDee's cafe. They have the best breakfast in town. Get the pancakes!

Is the nightlife good in Bolivar? Where is good to go?

This is not a party town. Springfield is 30 min south and is a big city with tons of restaurants and a more active nightlife. Also Bass Pro is headquartered there and is a neat place to visit.

What advice would you give future students heading to Bolivar?

If you are looking for a friendly town where the local people are happy to meet new students then Bolivar is the place. Southwest Baptist University is a great school. The instructors are the best and they really care about the students. Arrive a week early to get orientated and settled in.
