Five False Stereotypes about the Erasmus

Is your first time abroad and you don't know what to expect? Yo have spent time reading about Erasmus, but are you sure that everthing is true?

Here are 5 false stereotypes you'll surely hear.

Exams are just a formality for Erasmus students!

Absolutely false! Surely it dipends on the University you're going to, but my experience at the Ruprecht- Karls Universitaet of Heidelberg taught me that a good University expects its students to follow a certain standard, Erasmus students included. I mean, my idea of Erasmus wasn't sleeping all days and partying all nights but I dindn't expect to spend all my afternoons in the library either.

Erasmus = Parties

Don't worry, I am not that saying you won't enjoy the nightlife in your host country but Erasmus is much more than that. Erasmus is living in a foreign country, attending a new university, meeting people and travelling! When I was about to leave for my Erasmus all my friends were like "oh, now you're gonna get drunk all nights". My answer is now: it's up to you. Every Erasmus is personal ad unique. I loved going to partys with my friends but my studies were important too. So, never forget your priorities!

Erasmus students are not looking for anything serious

Again, it's up to you. Obviously it's difficult to start anything serious when you're about to leave in a few months, but it's possible. I have always been quite sceptical about it but seeing is believing!

I have seen boys avoiding girls because "they were Erasmus". Boys, I am talking to you: Erasmus girls are not bitches and a one night stand, when you're single, never killed nobody.

Erasmus-proof relationships do not exist

I believe in love and respect, but I especially believe in honesty. Though I must admit that if my boyfriend had to leave for an Erasmus, I'll be jealous too. I know what it is like to go abroad, but what could happen abroad that couldn't happen in your home country?

Abroad you're going to become a mothertongue speaker

It hurts, but it is true. I improved my language skills abroad but not as much as I expected. Hanging out with international students will make you rely on your knowledge of English. Don't repeat my mistake: although it's gonna be hard, talk, talk and talk again in the local language. You'll thank me later.
