What is it like to live in Zagreb? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is a great experience; I would not hesitate to recommend it for an exchange and longer stay. The city is quite small but it has a specific atmosphere. There are a lot of coffee places, parks, and clubs.

What is the student lifestyle like in Zagreb?

There is always something to do, without spending a lot of money on it. Zagreb has a lot of cultural events and possibilities to do sport. Every kind of person can find something interesting.

How much does it cost to live in Zagreb?

For a place in a student house, you have to pay 100 or 200 euros. During an exchange you get some discount for food so it is not expensive. You should buy a ticket for public transport (120 kunas).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Zagreb? Is there any advice you can give?

It is worth asking for help mentors (if you are going on exchange), trying to find something on your own, and maybe http://www.njuskalo.hr.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is tasty, maybe for those from Southern America quite interesting. My favorite dishes are burek, sarma, cevapcici, chestnuts cakes.

Is it good to eat out in Zagreb? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is obvious that it is more expensive than eating in menza (student restaurant) but it is worth trying some dishes. You have to visit Vincek – places with cakes and sweet products, Cookie factory, Nocturno for dinner.

Is the nightlife good in Zagreb? Where is good to go?

It is really good. Most exchange students go to Peppermint, Ritam grada, Lemon, Roko, Sidro, Vintage Industrial bar. Try to go to the club with special kind of music - “cajke”.

What advice would you give future students heading to Zagreb?

Do not hesitate to come. Prepare all the documents before coming here, make some copies, you need to remember about a visit to the police station, getting some Croatian documents after coming. At university, it will not take a lot of time, max around 2 weeks to get everything.
