What is it like to live in Vienna? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

In Vienna it's great to live, I would definitely recommend it. It's one of the most expensive cities in Europe, but the living standard is also really high. The public transport for example is really good and also the health system.

What is the student lifestyle like in Vienna?

Studying hard and partying as well ;)
Most of the students are really keen on studying fast.

How much does it cost to live in Vienna?

For example a room in a shared flat costs about 350€ (mean). A room in a students residence could cost less, but with less live quality or also much more than the 350€. A flat for one person alone costs much (very hard to find something payable).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Vienna? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, you have to plan much time. Pages for searching are for example: http://www.jobwohnen.at/
https://schwarzesbrett.oeh.ac.at/wohnen/
http://www.bazar.at/wien-wohnungen-anzeigen,cId,14,fc,9,loc,9?gclid=CMOO5ay6v8gCFQUOwwodUZ4BWw

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Good and solid. My favourite Austrian dishes are: Schnitzel, Schweinsbraten, Marillenknödel, Sachertorte, Apfelstrudel, Geselchtes mit Kren, Kaiserschmarrn, Rindsgulasch mit Semmelknödel, Palatschinken, Buchteln mit Vanillesoße, Reindling,.....

What places would you recommend visiting in Vienna?

Ringstraße and their buildings, Schönbrunn (castle and park, if you have many time also the zoo), Donauinsel (better in spring/ summer, when weather is getting warmer), Donaukanal (the same recommendation as for Donauinsel), going for a concert/ musical/ opera/ operette, christmas markets (november, december), ...

Is it good to eat out in Vienna? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, but could be expensive. I really like eating out for breakfast.
So for lunch or dinner I don't know much. For students for eating lunch very good is the Votivcafe or the Zwillingsgwölb near the main university.

Is the nightlife good in Vienna? Where is good to go?

Yes, there are many places to go, for every taste. It depends really much on your music taste, so my recommendations are very subjective. I for example dont like stuff like techno or Drum'n' Bass, I like more mainstream, Pop/ Pop-Rock, House, RnB, Hip Hop. I like the bars on the Gürtel for example (they are also very nice in summer, because you can sit outside at some). Also the parties in the Ottakringer Brauerei or in the Volksgarten are very cool.

What advice would you give future students heading to Vienna?

Don't be afraid of getting in touch with the local students.
Just enjoy staying in one of the most valuable to live cities of the world!! And if it's cold....don't mind, it's getting really hot in summer ;)
