What is it like to live in Sofia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Sofia has a very important historical value as a capital. It's also popular for it's mountain Vitosha, where you can ski 15min away from the center of the city, for example after work for night ski. The weather here is lovely, especially in spring. The food is exquisite anywhere in town.

What is the student lifestyle like in Sofia?

A lot of party!

How much does it cost to live in Sofia?

About 250-300 euro per month. Rent would probably be 130 euro.

And by that I mean good living.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Sofia? Is there any advice you can give?

It should not be difficult. I would recommend not to use the campus/university dorms, as they are far away from the centre.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is great, usually tastes are strong - garlicky, spicy, acid... Bulgarian white cheese is one of a kind. My favorite dishes are "choumlek", "moussaka", and "tarator".

Don't underestimate the kebab around the streets. It's wonderful.

What places would you recommend visiting in Sofia?

Neighborhood around "Alexander Nevsky" cathedral, National Theater "Ivan Vazov", "Graf Ignatiev" street, The Mosque and around, The Natinal Gallery, the Sofia University, The National Academy of Art, "Garibaldi square", " Slaveikov square".

What advice would you give future students heading to Sofia?

Stay away from "Student city". Some will tell you it's a party zone, but the truth is, it's horrible and I would also say a bit dangerous. Alcohol is very cheap so be careful. The best way to get sober is to have a soup, called "Shkembe chorba".
