Why did you choose to go to Sofia, Bulgaria?

Because I find the country very interesting. It is alsovery rearly chosen destination so I wanted to go somewhere that people wouldn't usually go.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

Erasmus scolarship was for 5 months that I was staying there, there was also option for 10 months. Money depends from the county you are from, I was recieving 450€ per month, which was more that enough for Sofia.

What is the student lifestyle like in Sofia?

It's really relaxed, everything is really cheap and people are fiendly. There are a lot of parties and Sofia ESN is organising a lot of erasmus parties and excursions which wer really great and also cheap. Profesors on Sofia University are very flexible. City is very safe, you should just be very carefull with taxis, because they are trying to charge you a lot more if you are a foreigner. So check taiffs and taxis before on the internet and always call-order them.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Sofia to other students?

I would recommed the city and the University to other students. You shouldn't expect top quality teaching and student dorms. But people are realy helpfull and everything is very cheap. The landscape is amazing and there are a lot of nature, parks places to go so you will never be bored. There is also new underground metro system which makes taveling around the city a lot more comfortable.

What is the food like?

The food is really good and you can eat out every day for 2-4 euros in really good places.
They have alot of vegetables and meat in taditional cusine but you can allways find normal european food and a lot of fast food franshises around the city.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Sofia?

I was renting an appartment since student dorms are quite bad. Ty to connect with other students to share rooms. They have a system with brokers so finding right place can be hard so start to check the rooms early.

How much does it cost to live in Sofia?

It will cost you around 300-400€ per month it really depends how much you party and where you are staying.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language was easy for me since I'm from Slovenia, but for others it's probably hard. People know quite good english though. There was a language course EILC before the beginig of the year. And tha there was Bolgarian class for foreignersin the University which is intermidate, so you need some pre-knowledge.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Sofia from your city?

Fom Slovenia there is a Florentiabus which goes from Florence through Ljubljana to Sofia. There used to be a wizzair flights from Venice which were stoped this year.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Sofia?

There are lots of places, ESN Sofia is organising pubcrawl in the first month so you get a tour of some cool bars and clubs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Sofia?

There is Krivoto, Divaka, all the Malls in Sofia have good restaurans and fast food.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

A lot, not just in the city but every where in Bulgaria. Try to get in contact with ESN Sofia they are very helpfull and can recomend you a lot of good places. They are planning also about 10 realy awesome excursions.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Sofia in the future?

Relaxe, party, enjoy, prepare for slow profesors and don't panic, everything will be sorted out in the end.
It's an amazing experience, try to travel around as much as you can. Bulgaria is very beautifull country with beautiful girls and cheap food+drinks :D
