What is it like to live in Rome? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Rome is a very hectic city. If you live in the city centre you can enjoy the charming view of the several architectures, avoiding the awful public transports. The city is a living museum. The transports are always crowded and there are a lot of strikes: the average is one every 3 weeks. However, there are several buses all night long. This service is very efficient.

There are a lot of nice parties almost every day. The best are on Monday Thursday Friday Saturday.

The weather is pretty good. The temperature in winter is around 12 degrees with just one or two weeks at 5/8 degrees usually in February.

In summer is very hot especially in the city centre (35 degrees).

Spring and autumn are really amazing. Perfect temperature and almost always sunny. I don't speak about food, because you know...in Italy you can eat well even the worst place. Roman very typical food can be found in the "ghetto" the Ebrew centre (actually Hebrews are the people who have been living in Tome for the most time) but is quite expensive.

What is the student lifestyle like in Rome?

There are a lot of students in Rome. If you live in the city centre there are a lot of social events. Italian universities are tough. If you go to a private university in Rome it could be easier. In the public, the instruction is really good as well and usually people in Erasmus are given some help.

How much does it cost to live in Rome?

Life in Rome is quite expensive.

You can manage well your budget by choosing the right places to eat and the right parties at the right moment. Usually, there are some discounts in some periods and also free parties (especially for girls).

The average cost of parties=10€ with a cocktail

Cost of public transports 1 travel ticket: 1,50€

Cost of public transp. 1 month: 35€

Food is expensive (less than in France and more than Spain). You can have lunch with 5€ (pizza pasta or panini). If you go to the restaurant, you spend from 15 to 40€ depending on the quality of food and the area.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rome? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it is not difficult. In Vittorio Emanuele square (the Chinese area, in the city centre 5/10 minutes far from the colosseum) there are a lot of apartments. Anyway ask some students they will give you a lot of information.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Everything is good.

Pizza, supplì(roman), pasta, steck, cheese(roman cheese pecorino), ham, fish(in ostia and fiumicino is the top), piadina, trippa(roman), carciofi alla giudia(roman)

What places would you recommend visiting in Rome?

Just live the city and meet roman guys. They are very social and friendly and they will bring you to the nicest places

Is it good to eat out in Rome? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Vecchia Roma, taja e coci, kilo, momart(aperitif buffet), manhattan, 200gradi, margherita...

Is the nightlife good in Rome? Where is good to go?

Via libetta. (there are a lot of discos in this street), chalet del bosco, vibe, art cafè, gilda...

What advice would you give future students heading to Rome?

Don't be shy and make friendship with roman people. They will help you a lot to live in a difficult and hectic but also a wonderful city as Rome is.
