What is it like to live in Rhodes? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I have grown up in Rhodes and I recommend this city to all the young people interested in a pretty big city that offers a lot to young people, but not everything as a capital city would.

What is the student lifestyle like in Rhodes?

It is fairly organised but not as much as in the bigger greek cities. However it is convenient to study here because there are many student apartments around the university and the distance to go somewhere in general is never long, since we are talking about an island.

How much does it cost to live in Rhodes?

Not cheap but not expensive either. It is more expensive than greek cities in the mainland, because it is an island, and islands have higher taxes. But it is not like some other european countries where you have to spend a greek salary (400-600 euros) in renting a room in an apartment.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rhodes? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not hard to find, but keep in mind not to leave it for the last moment (especially before september where the new students arrive!)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The foods are pf mediterranean cuisine. Lots of salads, everything cooked with olive oil (it is not expensive here), pork meat, chicken, lots of fruits depending on the season. Fish too, but the fresh ones are expensive. My favorite dish is spagett with meatballs and tomato sauce. Oh, and lots of tomato sauce!

What places would you recommend visiting in Rhodes?

Lindos, Filerimos, Prasonisi, and definitely Antony Queen beach. Also the Water Park in Faliraki!!

Is it good to eat out in Rhodes? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes it is generally very clean -except for some trashy places you must stay away from- and lots of creperies, and greek grill fast food places (we call it pitogiro or souvlaki). Also asian restaurants. My favorite spot is "Stavlos greek restaurant " in Madraki, the city center.

Is the nightlife good in Rhodes? Where is good to go?

It is better and more crowded in summer because of the tourists. In general this city has two versions: the winter version and the summer version. The winter it's quiet, and the streets sometimes totally empty. The summer the weather is amazing and there are foreigners everywhere! All the places and nightclubs are full! Many beach parties! The best place to visit any time of the day is the Old Town of Rhodes. Many clubs there too.

What advice would you give future students heading to Rhodes?

That they should find a house next to the university because transportation is totally disappointing (sorry but i am trying to warn you here). Find something of a walking distance to the university or prepare to miss a lot of courses.
