Why did you choose to go to Milan, Italy?

Because I study Interior design and at the time I am in Milano there was the Expo. Really interesting for desingers. Also the country, the weather, the food is what I really like here. The city is big and have a lot to offer so thats is why I choose Milano.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship is based on the Erasmus+ system. It is around 335€ each month but you get 2/3 before and 1/3 after you finish.

What is the student lifestyle like in Milan?

The Italian students work a lot. They are at the campus almost every day and because in Italy a lot of work is groupwork I met them a few times during the week. But when you have just theoretical work you dont need to. In Milano is a really big Erasmus organisation how are organising a lot. You can party almost every day in a club with Erasmus prices, they do things like international dinners, sports, trips really a lot during week and weekends.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Milan to other students?

yes for sure. Milano has so much to offer to everyone. The city is beautifull, there is always something to do. Also Milano is a city with the biggest number of international students what makes it very intresting to work with and have a nice time with.

What is the food like?

Italian food is as everyone knows pizza, pasta, pasta and pasta. I like that a lot, but when you dont like it, you can buy in the supermarket everything to make your own meal, just normal. Also they have a lot of markets where you can buy your fruit and vegatables what you like.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Milan?

It takes a lot of time, patience, and a bit of luck. Milano is big and there are really nice places to live but very expensive, and there are also nice places more close to the campusus so its just what you want. It a lot easier to find a place when you are in Milano because then you can call the number you see on the website and make an appointment imediately to see it. I went to Milano 5 days before school. Made 4 appointments during that days and choose one. Most of the appartments/rooms they offer are with 2 beds in one room. I didn't want that but when its not a problem for you, you have a lot more to choose in Milano.

How much does it cost to live in Milan?

When you want to live more in the city centre you pay like 500-600 € for a shared house each month. I lived more close to the school a bit out of the centre and I paid 365€. So it depends on what you want.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The university offers free italian courses. Also when you speak English you can do everything you want. I do the Italian course but its hard for me. You are Lucky when you can speak spaninsh or French because that sounds the same sometimes. For people from the north Italian is hard to learn. So for 1 semester you can do italian but you dont need it that muts, when you stay longer its nicer that you can talk also with people in the supermarket and so on.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Milan from your city?

By plane. You can fly to Milano Bergamo or Milano Malpensa. Ryanair has very cheap offers for that. Milano Linate you can also fly on but thats the more expensive one because its in the city, but I prefer flying to the other two. In Italy its also very good to travel by train.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Milan?

I recommend the Erasmus partys. Clubs like: Alcatraz, Le Banque and 11 are really nice to visit.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Milan?

uhh... a lot of real italian restaurants are good. Pizzeria, trattoria something like that. I dont know a real good one.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

a lot! Just the normal (toeristic) things but more. Hangar biccoca is nice, navigli, isola (the new part of milan), corso como, really a lot.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Milan in the future?

Just go. Milano is always full of international people to do something nice with.
