Experience in Maynooth, Ireland by Catherine

What is it like to live in Maynooth? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Maynooth is a student town, 40 mins from Ireland's capital Dublin. The university is relatively small, 10000 students. The campus is very friendly and relatively small so everything is easy to find.

Maynooth has everything you need, plenty of supermarkets, some clothes shops, plenty of cafes restaurants pubs and a nightclub, leisure centre. theyre are frequent buses into Dublin City if you want a wider variety of shops and clubs.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maynooth?

Maynooth students are very friendly and laid back. There is always something on or an event to go to as there are lots of clubs and societies you can join, also there are 3 main student nights out in local pubs and clubs on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

If you are smart about it you can get your weekly food shop cheap for €20-€30. Aldi have deals on fruit and veg every week and they sell most things students want, including cheap alcohol. If you want to go out for lunch or dinner there are lots of restaurants both on campus and off campus.

Is it good to eat out in Maynooth? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The Roost do a good deal for students, 7. 50 for a nice hot meal before 3pm. Pizza Dog is nice after a night out. The Avenue sells a huge portion of lovely chicken wings very cheap. Picaderks is a nice tapas restaurant and then there's the usual take aways, McDonald's, SuperMax, Chipper's, Chinese, pizzas etc

Is the nightlife good in Maynooth? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is reasonably good, there are always lots of people out on a student night. Thursday at the roost is ths most popular, then theres Monday and Wednesdays at Brady's. If you want to go out in Dublin for a change the clubs are much biggerand there are nighlinks back to Maynooth for around €7 until 4am.

What advice would you give future students heading to Maynooth?

Get your accommodation sorted as early as possible as people have problems trying to find somewhere every year
