Hello everyone!

So I wanted to tell you a little bit about my Erasmus year in Manchester studying in the University of Manchester. I have very nice memories from it, it was probably the best year of my life but there are some things that I would have like to know beforehand:

  • Good neighborhoods to live in: Fallowfield, city center, Victoria Park, Didsbury. Do not live in Moss Side (I did because the rent was very cheap and my house got robbed twice).
  • Always shop in Lidl or Asda, those are the cheapest supermarkets and are more or less good quality, but avoid the Asda smartprice brand at all costs.
  • Weatherspoons is a pub chain that has the cheapest beers and the cheapest english breakfasts on sunday.
  • You are going to party a lot, but not so much going to clubs, but going to house parties at the beginning of the night and if you feel like it after, you go to a club. English students are crazy, and there are a lot of recreational habits (if you know what I mean) that might impress you.
  • They take their studies very hard, there is always a library open 24 hours a day and you can see students there at any hour (even on a Saturday at 4 am).
  • It rains as much as everyone says.
  • It's not very pretty the first time you walk around Manchester, but in a few weeks you start finding beautiful places all over town, and it becomes a really special city.
  • The university student association is very well organized and you can ask for help anytime. They also organize a lot of parties (a lot of themed ones, don't miss Pangea at the beginning of every semester), but there isn't an specific Erasmus association, although there is an International Association for all international students (and there are a lot).
  • It is very well communicated by train and bus with many beautiful places around the UK. I recommend visiting The Lake District, Edinburgh, Oxford, York and Liverpool.
