Lynch Memorial Window, Galway

The Lynch Memorial Window is a facade located in Market Street. It has a window with a shield with a skull and two crossed shinbones. It is supposed that it makes an allusion to a fable about the Lynch's family. According to the legend, Walter was the son of the mayor of Galway. And he was friend of a Spanish man. The point is that both of them felt in love of the same woman. Blinded by jealousy, Walter killed his friend. The mayor, James Lynch Fitz Stephen, had any choice and had to imprison his son. As Walter was very popular in Galway, his friends tried to release him. Then, James Lynch hung Walter from the window.
