What is it like to live in Athens? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would totally recommend it especially to those who enjoy being cheerful and want to chill a bit. City of Athens will cover all of your needs even if you are a demanding person. Perhaps it is a city with different rhythms than other european cities but for sure you will enjoy.

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

Freedom to explore the city. Every corner is full of surprises. People and especially students are very kind and helpful to guide you. You can find many different styles in Athens so anyone is welcome to fit in. Greeks tend to hang out at cafes and talk about stuff. Most of them love the city by night especially on summer. Everything is calm but Greeks sometimes get loud. Don't worry they don't fight or argue, it is just our way. By the way most Greeks prefer greek music but they like clubs too where there is mainly mainstream pop hip hop or rnb music.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

Generally Athens is a cheap option. There are many options about the price. The prices for a studio is about 200 euros but no bill is included. If you make a good impression to house owner he might make you a discount if you tell him.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Athens? Is there any advice you can give?

There are few newspapers with solutions for accommodation. I am not sure if online searching will give you secure results but you may try. In fact, there are a lot of spots with info-stickers with houses in the area. Try find a house near metro because metro (subway) is the only safe option if you don't want to get late.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Every student must try suvlaki. You can find it everywhere. Athens has a lot of different cuisines, especially international and traditional. Traditional taverns are fewer but it is a cheaper option than a fancy restaurant with international plates.

What places would you recommend visiting in Athens?

Except all of the monuments of ancient city of Athens such as Acropolis and other temples with museums you can check Monastiraki where every student hang outs. Exarchia is another option with cheap drinks and parties. Syntagma area is interesting to explore especially in its hidden streets with many bars at Kolokotroni street parallel to Ermou street. Both of these streets are very popular all day long.

Is it good to eat out in Athens? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are many options as i said. Fast food is everywhere but there are day by day more new hidden places to discover. Especially for eating and drinking.

Is the nightlife good in Athens? Where is good to go?

Downtown is a very good option by night. Keramikos or Monastiraki are two places that are awake all day and night. Exarchia area has a lot of after clubs.

What advice would you give future students heading to Athens?

Maybe you will not be able to fit in quickly in Athens due to its rhythm or style but you will enjoy being a part of it. Also be careful at the metro for pickpockets or people who ask for money. They are harmless but you never know. Do not hesitate to ask for help. Anywhere. Also most of the cafes allow smoking inside. Just ask for it before.
