Erasmus experience in Athens, Greece

Why did you choose to go to Athens, Greece?

Because it seemed attractive to me. I don't regret my choice! It was an adventure!

How long did you stay for? How much financial help did you receive?

I stayed for 3 months (a short semester). I would have liked to have stayed longer. I would recommend staying for a whole year if you are able to and have the motivation!

The total grant I received was around €2800. This was enough for me to live off of for 3 months, but it was a little tight.

How was the student atmosphere in Athens?

It all depends on whether you are with other Erasmus students or with Greek students. All in all, the atmosphere is very nice.

At the beginner, you'll mainly spend time with other students of your nationality. But you will then easily connect with the rest of Europe.

Would you recommend the city and University of Athens to other students?

Yes. Even if it's not the best time to go due to the current socio-political situation!

How is the national food?

Souvlakis, kebabs, Ouzo, Rakomelo, Inemelo...

How did you find your accommodation?

I found it on the Internet (http://www.justlanded.com). Or you can find one when you're there with help from the Students/Erasmus Association.

What is the price of accommodation like? And the prices in general?

The price of accommodation is cheaper than in France, especially if you live with others, which is the Erasmus way of life.

In general, public transport and taxis are cheap. However, if you go to the supermarket, the food is a little more expensive than in France.

How is learning the language? Did you go to language courses organised by the university?

It is a fascinating language, but I didn't follow my university's courses. However, it is possible!

What is the cheapest way to get to Athens from your hometown?

Definitely by plane.

Where would you recommend going to party in Athens?

The Gazi district, which is very popular for its nightclubs, its bars and its ambience. Kolonaki and Monastiraki are also cool. You'll find clubs everywhere in the centre.

And where to eat in Athens? What are your favourite places?

Eat at the bottom of the Acropolis, in the Acropolis, Plaka and Monastiraki districts.

And which cultural sights would you recommend?

Definitely the Acropolis. The different temple ruins. The ancient Olympic games stadium. Glyfada beach.

Any tips for future students in Athens?

1. Be careful, especially when you go out at night.

2. Enjoy the sun, the summer temperatures, party a lot!
