Why did you choose to go to Ankara, Turkey?

Bilkent University ranks among the best in the country and I was offered a scholarship so I decided why not? And I don't regret it yet. It's a pretty amazing place.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It is 5 years of university scholarship, so living is up to me.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ankara?

It depends on what kind of student life you are talking about. I am not much of a party person. I prefer eating good food, sitting an a gathering and having a good time. For me, I like Tunali, which has great places to just sit, chat and have good food. Although I have some party people as friends and they seem to enjoy the nightlife in Ankara. At weekends the Tunali area is full with youngsters having a good time.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ankara to other students?

The city is not as illuminated as the other cities of Turkey but my university makes up for it. Bilkent has a good international student body so the diversity helps out a lot. Plus you can always leave the city to visit other places.

What is the food like?

Turkish food isn't the best food I've eaten honestly, but it is pretty good. Plus there are Chinese, fast food, and many other kinds of restaurants here so it's not like you are only exposed to turkish food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ankara?

Yes, I am not on stipend of any kind but it's okay, it's not that expensive.

How much does it cost to live in Ankara?

I pay 600 lira per month in a 3 bedroom apartment with utilities included.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It's not that difficult but personally I am not a big fan of languages so I can't say. Yes, Bilkent offers language courses.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ankara from your city?

The metro, after you make the student card, is pretty cheap.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ankara?

Yes, definitely. It's a lively place on weekends, but on weekdays not so much.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ankara?

I have been to Quick China, which is pretty amazing as I like Chinese food a lot. Then there is Tint, a cafe in Tunus with the best waffle I have had in Ankara. I am a big fan of burgers so I try a lot of burger joints. Till now, Big Bang Burger and Mickey's burgers are the best I have eaten.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

I cannot help with that, I am not a big fan of culture. However, I have heard that Attaturk's mausoleum and the Ankara Castle are the two major attractions of the city.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ankara in the future?

Yeah, it's a pretty good place to live for a while. Nice people, good food, good security. Don't hesitate to hit me up if you need anything.
