Why did you choose to go to Amsterdam, Netherlands?

I like the Netherlands in general - the beautiful landscape, biking, canals. Amsterdam is perfect for young people - it is a very vibrant city and has loads to offer - different parties, cultural events and open-mindedness! :)

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

What is the student lifestyle like in Amsterdam?

There are several universities and hogeschools in Amsterdam, thus the student population is big. There are people from all kind of nationalities and the atmosphere is very international. It is very likely you will finds friends from all over the world.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Amsterdam to other students?

Good level of education and full student life experience.

What is the food like?

Loads of sandwiches :) and good Dutch cookies.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Amsterdam?

Finding accommodation in very challenging, that's why it's start looking early.
If you group up with some people you stand a better chance of finding an apartment, rather than a single room.

How much does it cost to live in Amsterdam?

400-500 euro for accommodation

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is not easy, neither attractive and melodic. However, universities offer courses for international students, so if you are persistent you can grasp the basics.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Amsterdam from your city?

Biking

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Amsterdam?

There are clubs for all music tastes. Te fans of electronic music will be the most satisfies - there are big student parties on Thursdays - try Sugarfactory, Panama, Paradiso, Studio 80.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Amsterdam?

All kind of international cuisine can be found, especially around Niewmarkt - there are great student discounts or All you can eat offers.
The best pizza in town is at Pizza Bakkers - they have several pizzerias around town.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The whole country is like an open air museum so try o see as much as possible - all the sited outside Amsterdam are reachable within an hour.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Amsterdam in the future?

Start looking for accommodation as early as possible and get a second hand bike once you get to Amsterdam. You will need a very good rain proof jacket as well :)
