Why did you choose to go to Alicante, Spain?

Honestly, this was the only city my university had offered, BUT I do not regret any second of my life in Alicante.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I was living in Alicante for four months. My university paid me scholarship at the amount of 630 euros per month. If you choose rather cheap apartment to rent, this money is quite enough for living, eating, transport and shopping.

What is the student lifestyle like in Alicante?

Well, they study a lot (or it only concerns filologists, I don't know), everything is in Spanish, therefore you have to have knowledge in order to understand them freely.

They offer a lot of excursions, parties, fiestas and so on for stundets. Every week, almost everyday there is an event, that you may attend.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Alicante to other students?

Sure, it is a city, that you need to visit and enjoy!

What is the food like?

A lot of seafood, but very delicious. Food made at home is twice more delicious than those in cafeterias and restaurants (but it is the same everywhere). Anyway, the food is tasty, product - rather cheap.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Alicante?

No, it was quite easy. There was a page with offers on Universities webpage and practically the first apartment I have chosen was mine. There are a lot of announcements at the University itself, where people had offered room with all the costs for 125 euros per month.

How much does it cost to live in Alicante?

Well, apartment may cost from 120 to 250 euros per months, food approximately 150 euros. Bus card for 30 travels (for students) 17 euros (but it was in 2011).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It is easy to start talking in Spanish. Local people are always ready to help, never laugh at you and are very patient while you are thinking which word suits best.

There are courses for all levels organised by University for all erasmus students. As I have understood, courses are obligatory.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Alicante from your city?

From my city (Riga) I took a bus to Kaunas (Lithuania) and took a direct flight from kaunas to Alicante.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Alicante?

Oh, I was a homesitter, therefore I really don't know many places to go out. But I know that clubs like Havana and Mulligans (If I'm not wrong) at Rambla are very popular.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Alicante?

Unfortunately, I mostly ate at home, therefore I can't advise anything.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Museum of Archeology, Santa Barbara castle

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Alicante in the future?

Go to Alicante and enjoy this lovely city!
